Rainy-day fun: sending a package to a friend in Peace Corps. Eventually, she will have some delicious roasted coffee beans, AND a grinder to grind them with. (Don't worry, she has an adapter for the US-style plug.)

Merrimack River,
Newburyport, MA

I like living in a town where I can walk ten minutes from my house in the morning, and catch the fishing boats heading out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Newburyport, MA

Today it was really fun to come home after work on a raw rainy day and find no water leaking from the ceiling (note the ugly stain and hole from last week's flood) Fun is relative, I guess....

Newburyport, MA

This morning, instead of going over the river and through the woods, I found a path that goes through the woods and under the bridge. This is a view of the underside of Route 95 bridge over the Merrimack River.

Talk about Turkey Day! I don't know what was more fun today- selling plastic bags full of huge bloody turkeys all day, or seeing this amazing turkey- dinner cake in the grocery store.

These are a few of my favorite neighbors- very quiet. (Like Sarah Palin, I can see this cemetery from my house!) There are graves here from the 1600s. I love to walk here.

Not too difficult.

Newburyport, MA

Today was a NO FUN day. I never got a chance to go looking for fun after working all day, because there was a deluge in my apartment! Here is the hole in the ceiling that the plumber made while he was looking for the source of the giant flood that soaked my kitchen. He is coming back tomorrow to tear the entire ceiling down and continue his search. (The house is like 300 years old....) OK there was a little moment of delight when I succeeded in bringing my wet laptop back to life with a hairdryer. That was fun, kinda.

Maudslay State Park

Another long walk at Maudslay, this time with my friend Bernadette, whose husband Bruce met up with us later, along with their dog Brexton. I think Brexton has his own website.

Today I got to help out with an environmental education program for kids, with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. We all learned how Plum Island was formed, how piping plovers survive (or don't...) and what, exactly, sand is. Then we dug into a whole pile of stuff that the tide brought in.

Newburyport, MA

Double fun today. A nice bike ride on a relatively warm, sunny day AND an opportunity to do a little vandalism for the greater good (good grammar, that is.) So many misplaced apostrophes, so little time!

Fun thing for today: getting a new sink and stove-
for free! I love being a renter.

8 am
The faucet leaked, and the stove couldn't be used because when I turned it on, it smelled like something died in there- a long, long time ago......

3 pm
I can't wait to make cookies.
